The EL-5 is a 95% dimethyl / 5% diphenyl polysiloxane capillary column with a bonded and crosslinked low-polarity phase. It is a direct equivalent to DB-5, HP-5, Ultra-2, Rtx-5, and BP-5 phases, making it a reliable replacement for methods developed on those columns. The small proportion of diphenyl groups gives the EL-5 a characteristic affinity for aromatic compounds, making it one of the most versatile columns available for multi-compound analysis.

Applications

The EL-5 is suited to a wide range of GC applications across multiple industries. In cannabis and hemp analysis, it is used for potency testing and pesticide screening. In brewing and alcohol analysis, it performs well for flavour profiling of esters and higher alcohols.
